Room reveal: bedroom for Mr S
Designing bedrooms - from concept through to perfectly-styled-completion - has to be one of our favourite types of small projects. Mr S - we hope you continue to love this room as much as you did on the day of reveal, and that it is everything you need it to be and more!
This time, we had the joy of creating a new teen room for Mr S - he loves his cricket, requested a desk and a double bed, and needs a room that will grow with him over the years to come. The room needs to be fun yet equally mature, with space to display his books and trophies.
Taking inspiration from his list of preferences, we developed a vision for a palette of deep blue, tan leather, steel, and grey with a warm neutral plaid, and set out to update the room from its - ahem - previous style. As we all agreed on the install and styling day, that loyal fan quilt cover had served a purpose up until now, but the room was definitely ready for a change!
So much character!
It was again so important to get the layout just right, to maximise the function of the modest space without it feeling congested.
Here’s a rundown of all elements we included:
Two tone wall paint – the most perfect blue at 1200mm high adds character, personality, and grounds the room, and it’s something different to the frequently used feature wall. Here, every wall can join in on the fun!
Deep blue steel desk - there but not there, it blends perfectly with the wall, creating a feeling of spaciousness (as another colour would have made the room feel way too busy)
Brass - another layer and texture to add to the character of the room and brighten the deep navy and grey tones
Plaid blanket - so incredibly soft, and brings together the tones of the walls, carpet, bedding perfectly. We decided the tuck, yet it’s equally beautifully untucked too
Bed with storage - when space is at a premium, a bed with concealed storage is a great idea. The upholstery on this was the perfect blue grey for the room too - bonus.
Vintage prints - a subtle nod to his love of cricket, these prints still feel really sophisticated and we can just him wanting to display them in his own home one day!
Timber hat rack – brings another element of warmth, and encourages a teenage boy to keep all his hats and coats *off* the floor
Wall shelves – a place to display trophies and pictures, these shelves are just perfect for so many spaces
Pin board – fits neatly between the two wall shelves, and another practical feature that encourages him to personalise his own room
Leather desk chair - this just screams “sophisticated young man”! It’s super comfy too for hours of study
Layered bedding - custom leather cushion, fine check pillowcases to contrast and complement the plaid blanket, and that super cute round cushion in the perfect navy velvet
